Seeing as how it is currently cold & rainy out, it seems fitting to start posting about fall fashion. After I did my outfit post on my top with leather sleeves, I took a browse online to find a variety of items with leather details in different ways. I’m still on the hunt though for a sweater with full faux leather sleeves but hopefully I won’t have to search for too long if this weather keeps up! Seems like I’m going to start bringing out my fall wardrobe sooner than later. Which, I can’t really complain about because as much as I love the sun & summertime, Fall fashion is by far my favourite season. I love cozy knits, boots, dresses + tights and especially the colour palette. Also the oncoming of Fall means 2 things: Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back at Starbucks (heaven in a cup – seriously) AND that my birthday month is getting closer!
I hope everyone enjoys this last weekend of Summer before back to school, which conveniently is a long weekend. Nicole and I will be off to Osoyoos for our friends wedding, checking out wineries & hopefully soaking up some sun. After working so hard at work these last two weeks, I’m definitely in need of this mini vacay!
I baked these Betty Crocker Pink Lemonade cupcakes on the weekend for my friend’s bachelorette party! It was my first time making them and they turned out great! My friend loves pink and I wanted to stick to a girlie theme when I was deciding what to top them with. These bow rings were actually meant for a Sweet 16 but I just didn’t use the ring that said “16” on it. All the girls each wore the ring from their cupcake for the evening too! I unfortunately ended up losing mine.
And I still had one of these edible treats left from the cupcakes I baked for another friend’s bachelorette party back in April so I made a special one just for the bride 😉
If you don’t already know, Stephanie is engaged and getting married in one year (and one day)! I offered to design her save the dates for her, they can be way over priced on websites likes Etsy. I said I could create a custom design and something that her and her fiancé would love! It literally took 2 hours of my time and $10 worth of paper and I think they turned out perfectly.
Being an interior designer we are always using Adobe programs like Photoshop and Illustrator, which is what graphic designers use to create things like this. I am no graphic expert but I love designing invites! I guess you could say it is something I do on the side for fun!
I hope you love these invites as much as Stephanie and I do!
Early in the year I saw a top H&M that had short leather sleeves and I instantly fell in love! (Obviously I bought it – it even had a peplum!) Since then I’ve become slightly obsessed with any kind of leather details and have been lusting for a sweater with full (faux) leather sleeves. Now that we’re heading into fall I’m hoping I can find this garment I’ve been dreaming of. To add to the leather-detailed items in my closet, I recently purchased the t-shirt I’m wearing from Forever 21! The fact that it’s also in one of my favourite shades of green made it even more of a must have.
Also these booties are my absolute fav! I was on the hunt for a black pair for quite some time with no such luck when I happened to find a pair at Aldo. They were sold out in stores but were still available online so I hit “add to cart” and finalized my purchase. However, a few days later I got an email saying there was an error and they actually no longer had my size in stock so I was back at square one. Then while returning to my online perusing I discovered this pair from Call It Spring and knew immediately I had to have them; the sliver of gold on the heel made them that much better. I’ve worn them so much that they’ve gotten pretty beat up & it’s tempting to buy a replacement pair since they’re now on sale! And because I’m on my feet all day at work I don’t wear high heels so I like to wear booties as comfortable substitute.
Stephanie and I have two good friends that are marrying each other in 2.5 weeks!! It’s coming up so fast! She is having a what is going to be gorgeous vineyard wedding in Osoyoos, British Columbia. Everything is just about ready to go, the stagette is next weekend and the following weekend is the big day! Although the decor and everything is already set and done, I have come up with some vineyard inspiration using the colors of the wedding. Enjoy!!
Those who know me are well aware that I LOVE to bake cupcakes! And I’m obsessed with any kind of trinket or article of clothing with cupcakes on them; I have a spatula, key chain, lanyard, timer, apron, PJ bottoms…The list could go on. I don’t know what brought on this somewhat obsession but they’re just SO cute! And obviously taste delicious. I definitely enjoy the baking process but it’s when the time comes to ice & decorate the cupcakes that the excitement ensues. For my friends and family, when it’s your birthday you can pretty much expect a pretty package of birthday cupcakes! I always bring the extras into work too which my staff love.
I love using coloured pastes to add more “personality” to the cupcakes – like making them a friends favourite colour or to go with the holiday. I have a variety of icing tips but I usually just stick to my Wilton 1M tip. I also have a growing collection of sprinkles and cupcake liners.
Recently 2 of my co-managers had their last day at my store before they start at a new location opening up at the end of the month! Of course I had to bake cupcakes and with celebrations the first thing that comes to mind is CHAMPAGNE! I decided to bake these Betty Crocker Pink Champagne Cupcakes. They are AMAZING! I’ve made them a few times before (once with blue icing) and they are always a hit. I even whipped up a batch once and divided it amongst a few of my friends due to popluar demand!
A couple of years ago I moved back into my parents house because my boyfriend and I were both going to be students. Obviously it isn’t something you want to do when you are in your early 20’s but I am close to my family so it wasn’t that bad – what was bad was my bedroom. Last time it was painted was in 10th grade and it was a bright electric blue and teal. I clearly grew out of this room a long time ago, I didn’t like my bed, my decor, my furniture and the list goes on.
So I took everything out to make it more my style. I painted the room Bunny Grey from Benjamin Moore, bought a new comforter from West Elm and took out furniture that wasn’t needed. I thought I would be able to have all my clothing in my closet – of course it didn’t all fit. Being on a tight budget there was no way I could afford anything that I liked, and my old dresser didn’t match in my new and improved room. So I decided to paint it. I searched on Pinterest for inspiration, finding a few things I liked. I was thinking blue, my favourite colour, and mint was also popular and so I decided to go with something in that color range. And that when a light bulb went off in my head!! Tiffany’s!!
What girl doesn’t like Tiffany’s and their iconic blue? So I went to Benjamin Moore and found a color that was the closest to Tiffany Blue. (For anyone interested in using the color it is Tropicana Cabana #2048-50)
After LOTS of sanding, Priming and painting. I was just about done. But I had to choose some new knobs or handles. Since this was a Tiffany’s inspired dresser what would be better than some shiny crystal looking knobs! I found some great ones at Home Depot, and all I had to do was put them on and then my job would be complete!!
I accessorized my new dresser with a few of my favorite books and cook books. I used my Michael Kors watch boxes as bookends – filled with change so they actually worked! Then I have my baby shoes just on top of some of the books.
This is the completed look! It even matches my yoga mat perfectly!!
I am so in love with moroccan leather poufs! They come in just about any color you can think of, different sizes and can be used in any room. These poufs are handcrafted, made from genuine leather and are made by artisans in Morocco. They are great because they can be used as footstools, extra seating or just used as decor. My personal favorite are the white, gold and baby pink colored ones! These adorable poufs can get pricey though, averaging at about $350 or more. There are some great stores in the Vancouver area that sells these cute poufs like The Cross Decor and Design. Or another popular store Tazi Designs that is located in San Francisco make custom poufs and can be ordered online.
I hope you are just as in love with moroccan leather poufs as I am! Now the hardest part is choose what color to get! Here are some poufs and some inspiration on where and how to use them!
The summertime is the most popular time of year for weddings! Depending on the location, you’re pretty much guaranteed to have nice weather. At the end of this month I’ll be attending the wedding of two of my good friends as a guest (Nicole is one of the bridesmaids!) and I still have yet to decide what I’ll be wearing (typical). There are a few things to think about when picking out a dress!
The first thing to do is find out what colour dresses the bridesmaids are going to be wearing – you don’t want to show up in the same colour. Then, find out what kind of style/theme the wedding is going to be; A country chic wedding might call for a more casual dress and cowboy booties whereas a fancier wedding will require a more glam look with pretty jewels & a long dress. Also, do you want to wear a print – like floral? Or a delicate detail – like lace? Stick to something that you’re going to be comfortable wearing for hours & able to dance in. On that note of comfort, don’t wear ridiculously high heels or shoes that are flat out uncomfortable! If you’re not a heels kind of girl but don’t want to wear flats, stick with a wedge. They are perfect to get the extra height and are far more bearable to dance the night away in! Oh, and don’t wear any shade of white/cream/off-white/ivory unless 1) you get the OK on the dress from the bride or 2) you can add a detail to the dress so it doesn’t resemble a wedding dress.
Lastly, be true to your style and have fun! Here are a few dresses that are perfect to wear to a wedding and I may have to pick one of them up for myself!
One of my favourite trends in the past little while is chalkboard paint! It is one of those things that you can be really creative with and thanks to Benjamin Moore you can now get it in any colour. You can paint a feature wall in your kitchen so your kids can keep busy while you cook dinner, paint it on table tops for your kids to doodle, use it in your office to use as a to-do list wall or paint bowls, bottom of wine glasses or tops of mason jars to use for labelling. The possibilities are endless. I recently hosted a bridal shower for one of my best friends and decided to use the chalkboard idea throughout the decor. Here are some inspiration photo’s for you to get some ideas for chalkboard paint in your homes.
