So apparently I am one of those people that need a vacation after a vacation. Actually I was sick over my entire Christmas break and cracked my rib so technically it didn’t really feel like a vacation. So I am currently resting my rib all week in my home away from home. But before I arrived here I decided to do a outfit post before leaving. This outfit is perfect for when I go to work or out for dinner with some girl friends. And I am still loving the colour berry that was so popular in the fall. Happy Tuesday everyone!!

Every New Year I usually avoid making a New Years resolution. Instead I try to set some goals that I want to accomplish over the year and I am always trying to eat healthy and go to the gym a few times a weeks so I see no need to make those typical resolutions. I am happy where I am in my life and I just want to keep that up! But I am aware that a lot of people make resolutions and eating healthy is one of the most popular. So I want to share one of my own recipes!
This is one of my favourite lunch recipes that I make at least once a week mixing up the ingredients to what I feel like that day. This particular recipe helps you get rid of that giant bag of brussel sprouts you bought from Costco for the holiday season. Most people cook their brussel sprouts but I find them even better uncooked.
BRUSSEL SPROUT QUINOA SALAD
1 Large handful of Brussel Sprouts
1/2 a Cucumber
1/2 cup of Quinoa
1 Orange Pepper
1/2 an Avocado
1/4 cup of Hemp Seeds
1tbsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
3tbsp of Balsamic Vinegar
1/2 of a Lime
Add the 1/2 cup of quinoa into a pot and add 1 cup of water and bring to boil. Once boiled put on low until cooked, about 15min. Set aside to cool.
Chop and dice the vegetables. When cutting up the brussel sprouts cut off the hard end part and remove any loose leafs. I then try to cut them somewhat thin, usually in 4 or 3 pieces per sprout. Add all vegetables, hemp seeds and quinoa into a salad bowl. Add the olive oil and balsamic vinegar and squeeze 1/2 a lime into the bowl. Mix and enjoy!
You can also add some nuts or a grilled chicken into the salad if desired for some extra protein . This is good for 2 servings and is 282 calories per serving, unless you are really hungry you could eat it all without feeling gulity!
Sorry for the lack of posts, I don’t really have a reason other than I’ve been pretty busy! Bouncing around from house to house over the holidays gets tiresome, as nice as it is to see our families. Also by default from working retail, Boxing Day is always a hectic day too so I took last week off work to spend time with my fiancé and relax. We didn’t go anywhere but did enjoy a nice stay-cation at home and it went by far too quickly.
I don’t usually make resolutions but I have made a couple goals for myself for this year. One of them being to finally get the body I want – specifically flatten my tummy, I’m happy with everything else. I know that sounds so cliché, but I feel that I actually have a reason to accomplish this now. As much as I’ve always wanted a flat and toned tummy like I use to have in high school, I just enjoy indulging too much. However, with my bachelorette party in Vegas, our wedding and our honeymoon in Hawaii happening this year, I feel like now is the time. A couple of my co-workers have signed up for the same gym as me and the three of us have decided to workout together everyday after work, stop hitting up Tim Hortons on our break & have a “no junk food January” (at least when we’re at work). We were suppose to start yesterday when I returned to work but unfortunately both of them have gotten sick. I’ve stuck to the pact though! I’m taking a break from boot camp but will start it up again in March in combination with the gym. I’m sure that with hard work, dedication and determination I can accomplish this goal!
One of my other goals is to run my first 5K. I know that I can physically accomplish it, it’s more about actually signing up and making time for it amidst the wedding planning. Even if it means doing it all by myself.
To quickly sum this post up, because I need to get some sleep, this year is going to be the best one yet. I’m so excited to be marrying my best friend and the love of my life. Just over 7 years ago we jumped into a relationship pretty quickly, which has had it’s ups and downs, but I knew then just as much as I do now that he’s the guy I want to spend the rest of my life with. I’m trying not to get too overwhelmed with the wedding planning but I have feeling that’s going to be inevitable. Until that point comes though, I’m enjoying how simple everything’s been so far and look forward to crossing off a few more “big” things off the list.
Tomorrow is New Years Eve and 2013 is finally coming to an end! This is has been a good year for me with achieving some milestones like completing my Bachelor’s Degree and getting my first job at an interior design firm. I watched my two best friends get married in Osoyoos. I also went through a few personal things that really taught me who my true friends are and what I really want in life.
Unfortunately I have Bronchitis right now and am on antibiotics and my someone special is in Michigan for the NHL Winter Classic game, so my New Years Eve won’t be as eventful as the rest of my year. But I need my rest so I can go back to work next week! Although I am not hosting or going to a New Years party I can’t but help look on Pinterest for NYE decor ideas! This year it looks like gold, silver and black is very popular with lots of glitter and champagne!!!
I hope everyone has a fun and safe New Years Eve!!
The time is seriously just flying by – Christmas is ONE week away!
I plan on attempting to finish up my shopping this weekend. The only people I have left to shop for are the 2 most important men in my life – my dad and fiance. I know the malls are going to be crazy busy so wish me luck!
A couple weeks back I put up all our holiday decorations and only just recently put up our tree. I quickly snapped a few shots of the various decor pieces we have around our condo during the holiday season!
(Most pieces were purchased last year from Chapters, Canadian Tire, Home Sense & the dollar store!)
I recently discovered a company called STACT. They have designed a revolutionary wine rack that is modern, minimalist and modular. When I first went on their website I read this “STACT isn’t a wine rack. It’s an interior décor piece that stores wine in a beautiful way.” That is exactly what I want in a wine a rack! The wine rack was designed in San Francisco by Eric Pfeiffer and is now based in Vancouver – Another plus! What I love about the wine rack is that you can use it in a small location in your house or you can really make a statement piece with any design you can come up with. Here are some examples from STACT’s website of ways their wine rack has been used.
Okay so I might be totally obsessed with STACT but it’s an interior designers dream wine rack, the possibilities are endless! I am definitely craving a glass of wine now. Have a good weekend everyone!
Okay Apple lovers I have discovered the coolest accessory for your iPhone. If you haven’t heard of it already it’s called the Foaster. It is an elegant charger for your iPhone and it looks like a toaster. It is meant to de-clutter all those cords, is designed to look good in a kitchen and it lets you charge 2 iPhone’s at a time.
Probably my favourite feature is it was designed so that you can see your phone while it’s charging so you can see if you get a message. If you do get a message while you have one hand dirty from making dinner you can easily use the free hand to grab the iPhone instead of having to use both hands to unplug it. This creative device isn’t on the market yet but it should be able to buy in March of 2014. I can’t wait to put this in my kitchen!
It’s that time of year where your weekends start filling up with holiday parties, whether it’s for work, with your friends or family. Asides from your personal style, the location and/or theme of the party can narrow down your outfit choices. Everyone pretty much always has an ugly sweater party to attend, right? But it’s more about the parties where you get to throw some heels on & get all done up! Unfortunately my work doesn’t have a holiday party and neither does my fiance. However, I’ve compiled some pieces that I would consider wearing if I had somewhere to go – whether you’re feeling glam (sequins!), sophisticated sexy, or romantic in lace!
It’s been unusually cold here in Vancouver for the past few days, my iPhone says it’s currently -4 but feels like -10. Us Vancouverite’s are not use to freezing temperature’s! When I get home from work the first thing I do is turn on the fireplace and make some tea. This time of year is my favourite time of year to sit by the fireplace, I looooooove fireplaces – good thing I have 3 in my house! There are some really creative designs out there as I learnt while browsing through Pinterest. Here are some of my favourites I happen to find today.
Every year my dad gives us a Lindt advent calendar so today I got to enjoy the first of many delicious chocolates! Also, my fiance and I decided that we’d wait until the first of the month to put up our Christmas decorations. He’s currently out of town though so I went ahead and put up our few decorations myself, minus the tree. I want to wait for him to get home so we can at least put the tree up together, even though it doesn’t take much time.
I was eager to put up our decorations though because I couldn’t remember what we’d purchased last year (it was our first Christmas together in our place) and wanted to buy more. I should’ve known better than looking at what new pieces stores had to offer this year, I always get tempted. Sure enough after setting everything up, I want more. Our colour scheme is gold, silver, red & white and I feel that certain spots need more of certain colours. Therefore I plan on hitting up a couple stores this weekend to purchase just a couple new decorations!
