One of my absolute favourites though is Julia Engel of the fabulous blog Gal Meets Glam! This beauty is from San Fransisco, California and has impeccable style. Her outfits are flawlessly styled, capture that classic look and she always looks amazing. Print mixing isn’t for everyone but this girl can pull it off! She also got married a little over a year ago and I definitely have looked to pictures from her wedding as inspiration for mine as well. Also she’s very good at making a ponytail look good (or any updo for that matter) which is something I’ve yet to accomplish. I’ve gathered some of my favourite outfit posts from her blog (there are far too many to choose from!) to share with you. Now it’s time for me to do some outfit planning myself for the work week ahead.
Happy Valentine’s Day!!! Today is the day of looooove! Hopefully you’ll will be spending some time with a loved one or family or maybe a night out with your single girlfriends. My Valentine is a few provinces over so I will have to settle for a phone call. In honour of Valentines Day I have made a list of Friday’s Fabulous Five that are inspired all things Valentines! Enjoy!
First is these adorable pad printed heart mugs from West Elm. Choose between a large gold heart or the red ombre hearts. They are $9.18 each.
I just picked this top up at Aritiza the other day. It’s the Pasadena Tank by Talula. It’s the perfect top for Valentine’s day and also comes in Pink and Blue/Grey. It retails at $30.
It was only a matter of months ago that the designer collaboration Phillip Lim x Target hit stores, and here we are again with another one just a few weeks away – Peter Pilotto.
The London based design house consists of the duo Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos. Their collection for Target is full of colourful prints and includes dresses as well as separates. It’s fun, bright, energetic and the pieces are great for mixing and matching. It launches online (for the US) and in stores for both Canada and the US on Sunday February 9th. One of my favourite things about having Target in Canada now is that we get access to these designer collabs without having to go across the border.
Back in September I went to my nearest Target to line up for the Phillip Lim collaboration. I got there 10 minutes before the store opened thinking that nobody, if anyone, would already be lined up. I ended up being the 7th girl in line – a few of them even had shopping carts. When the doors opened, the girls at the front of the line were taking their sweet time heading into the store and I was adamant on getting at least one purse, so I RAN past a few girls straight to the bag display and snatched two immediately. And then went straight for the BOOM! sweatshirt for my sister-in-law. After trying on a few of the pieces for fun, I decided to buy for myself the navy blue sleeveless top with the ruffled front. I had also decided that I only needed one of the two purses I grabbed (the large satchel was too similar to a purse I already owned so I couldn’t justify buying it) but I couldn’t bear to put it back so I bought it and gave it to my sister-in-law as a birthday gift.
I’m hoping that there won’t be a big lineup, if any, when I go again this time. I have my heart set on one of the dresses and I will definitely run again to grab if it I need to. Here are a few of the look book images for the collection!
Last night were the American Music Awards, hosted in LA and loaded with performances. I don’t think I’m alone when I say that I much preferred Miley’s performance this time around compared to her notorious one at the MTV Music Awards show. Even though it still had an odd touch to it – the giant “singing” kitten on the backdrop & skimpy outfit, it was much more tame. And those quads, damn girl.
Asides from the performances and who won what award, as per usual, I just cared more about the fashion. Taylor Swift’s glittery Julien Macdonald frock looks stunning on her and is such a refreshing change from her usual award show attire. The Emilio Pucci cutout dress Nicole Richie rocked is so on trend right now and shows off her slim figure. Dolce & Gabbana are some of my designers so it’s no surprised I loved their dress that Ariana Grande wore, also because it’s all sequins! Although I personally think it would’ve looked better with a different hairstyle. Lastly, Kesha in a Michael Costello dress…yes, I just said that. Those who know me are well aware that I’m not a fan of her at all, however I have adjusted to being able to tolerate her songs. Anyways, the shape of the dress on it’s own is perfect and the side ruffle & slit just add the right edge to it.
I love browsing online and “shopping” – AKA I fill the cart with everything I want and then close the browser and don’t actually purchase anything. Sigh. However, I do usually bookmark the pages of the stuff I like and half the time when I go back through this “wish list” lots of the items are no longer available. Which I guess is a good thing, at least for my wallet anyways.
My most recent browse & bookmark session was on Aldo – specifically accessories. I love bundling up with scarves in the Fall/Winter time and like having not only an assortment of colours & prints but a variety of styles as well. For example; even if I have a circle scarf in a dark green, I feel the need to also have a regular scarf in the same colour. But I’m sure most girls do this, right? And I immediately fell in love with this bag as soon as I saw it. The structure of it and gold buckle detail helps make the bag. Although I prefer it in the black (but I don’t really need another black bag) the bone is also a great neutral tone and can transition well into the Springtime!
These are the few items that are currently on my wish list:
Can’t believe we’re already halfway through October, which means that today is…my BIRTHDAY!
I celebrated over the weekend with family and friends which also happened to be a long weekend for us Canadians because yesterday was Thanksgiving.
Saturday night was my celebration with my friends – we took a limo to a bar called the Lamplighter in Gastown which is in downtown Vancouver. It was so much fun! Then Sunday morning my fiance and I went over to my mom & step-dad’s to have brunch with them, as well as my brother and sister. It was very yummy – we had a variety of quiches, sausage, pineapple, croissants, tater tots & of course mimosas! Last week when my fiance and I went to Whistler for a few nights, we had an early birthday dinner together at the Keg and it was really nice.
I’m very lucky that the company I work for gives us our birthday as a paid day off, and this day happens to be the last of my 11 day staycation. It’s going to be weird going back to work tomorrow after so many days off, also because I will be at my new store. So I plan on enjoying the day by spending it with two of the most important people in my life! I’m meeting my mom for lunch, using birthday money to get my hair done and then meeting up with my dad for dinner. Normally I would never eat out twice in one day (with the exception of vacations) but it’s my birthday! And I have boot camp the next two evenings.
I went to try on wedding dresses again today with my mom and it kind of went how I thought it would. It did re-confirm that one of the 2 I really liked from a few weekends ago was my dress, however it also added a 3rd into the mix. It really is such a difficult decision, especially because the dresses are all so pretty. Although I didn’t like as many of the options at this store today compared to the other one, I did really really like one of the dresses – especially when I was all “jacked” up. One thing I have learned though is that a sparkly beaded belt is definitely a must have to wear with whichever dress I do end up choosing!
On that note of must haves, I’ve recently made a mini list of items in my head that I want to purchase for this Fall/Winter season. Even though my closet is beyond full and I don’t really need anything new these items can be considered as staples in your wardrobe. Any pair of denim is very versatile so you can’t go wrong there and the camel coat is not only a classic piece but it’s a neutral colour. As for the taupe booties, it’s really just to add another pair into the mix.
There are many trends for this upcoming Fall season but this is the last one of my Fall Trends posts! I say “upcoming” because it hasn’t quite started, even though the first official day of Fall is 2 days away. The weather has definitely started to change. When I’m getting dressed for work in the morning (which is at like 6am) it’s cold & cloudy but by mid afternoon it becomes warm & sunny. What the heck?! Oh right, this is Vancouver.
A trend that I love for Fall are pretty jewel tones like Teal & Berry/Oxblood! I actually just purchased a teal blouse & a berry long sleeve midi dress from H&M (on a side note, I’m become slightly obsessed with dresses & skirts in a midi length). It also happens that teal is one of my favourite colours – my #1 fav is purple. These colours are the perfect way to add that pop of colour to your Fall wardrobe which usually consists of neutrals like black, cognac & creme. They can also be worn all year round which is a great reason to pick up something in one of these fabulous colours!
A couple years ago I purchased a red plaid button down from Garage and was obsessed with it. Who knew that this pattern would become a highly coveted item! Unfortunately, either due to fit or my ever quick changing mind, I got rid of said shirt. Normally when I get rid of clothes (either selling them to friends, donating them or “recycling” them at H&M) I never miss anything but this shirt is a first. So I was on the hunt again for the perfect flannel and recently purchased the one from Garage pictured below. From the runway, plaid has been spotted in some of the Fall 2013 shows like Versace, Moschino, Suno and Fausto Puglisi. They come in a variety of colours & plaids and are so versatile with styling. You can wear them buttoned up or unbuttoned with ANY kind of bottom (skirt, shorts, leggings, jeans) or even with a maxi dress as a kind of “jacket”. Another common way to style it is to rock it old school – tied around your waist. Yes, really. Seeing this look reminds me of grunge fashion & the 90’s. I had to order mine online because they were sold out in stores at the time so I’m anxiously awaiting its arrival! I can’t wait to wear it tied around my waist with a tank and a black maxi skirt.
Now is the time of year to snag that perfect new coat for Fall. However, there’s a bit of a twist to the trend this season: the colour. Normally when we see pastels we think of Spring time, like Easter. It’s been spotted on various runway shows like Celine, Proenza Schouler, Emilio Pucci, Louis Vuitton & Gucci to name a few. The most popular colour being seen is pink but there’s also yellow, blue & lavender. Seriously, just screams Easter right?
Anyways, I don’t think I’ll be buying into this particular trend this season simply because I personally don’t like to wear pastels. I rarely ever wear pink and if I do it has to be a dark pink. On the contrary though I think that these coats are a fun & girlie piece that you can challenge yourself with to see how many ways it can be styled. This trend seems to be taking it’s sweet time to hit the sites online but here are a few pretty pink coats I’ve come across!
