I am SO desperately in need of my own work space. As you probably already know I am still currently living at my folks place since I just finished school and started my career. So I don’t have an option of changing an entire room into an office. Unfortunately that means I am stuck with turning my bedroom into a bedroom and an office. And that almost makes me not want to do it but I figure I will be living here at least until the end of the year so I might as well do it! I need a space where I can work when I work from home and blog in my spare time.
I find it hard to get inspiration when I don’t have a comfortable work space that can spark up some ideas. I have been looking on Pinterest for some home office suggestions that I can use in my space. I settled on using a lot of white, which will go nicely with my light grey walls. I also want to put something on my wall above my desk, something that will help with brain storming ideas. Here are some inspirational pictures I got off of Pinterest. I will be starting my work space this weekend so hopefully I will be done soon so you can show how it turns out!
Every year Pantone comes out with the colour of the year. Emerald is out and Radiant Orchid is in!! I am not the biggest fan of purple but this colour is starting to grow on me. For interiors I think this colour would be perfect as an accent colour with whites and greys. If you are feeling bold though you could paint a room this colour.
Here are some great interior spaces that I think have successfully used Radiant Orchid.
Tomorrow is New Years Eve and 2013 is finally coming to an end! This is has been a good year for me with achieving some milestones like completing my Bachelor’s Degree and getting my first job at an interior design firm. I watched my two best friends get married in Osoyoos. I also went through a few personal things that really taught me who my true friends are and what I really want in life.
Unfortunately I have Bronchitis right now and am on antibiotics and my someone special is in Michigan for the NHL Winter Classic game, so my New Years Eve won’t be as eventful as the rest of my year. But I need my rest so I can go back to work next week! Although I am not hosting or going to a New Years party I can’t but help look on Pinterest for NYE decor ideas! This year it looks like gold, silver and black is very popular with lots of glitter and champagne!!!
I hope everyone has a fun and safe New Years Eve!!
I recently discovered a company called STACT. They have designed a revolutionary wine rack that is modern, minimalist and modular. When I first went on their website I read this “STACT isn’t a wine rack. It’s an interior décor piece that stores wine in a beautiful way.” That is exactly what I want in a wine a rack! The wine rack was designed in San Francisco by Eric Pfeiffer and is now based in Vancouver – Another plus! What I love about the wine rack is that you can use it in a small location in your house or you can really make a statement piece with any design you can come up with. Here are some examples from STACT’s website of ways their wine rack has been used.
Okay so I might be totally obsessed with STACT but it’s an interior designers dream wine rack, the possibilities are endless! I am definitely craving a glass of wine now. Have a good weekend everyone!
It’s been unusually cold here in Vancouver for the past few days, my iPhone says it’s currently -4 but feels like -10. Us Vancouverite’s are not use to freezing temperature’s! When I get home from work the first thing I do is turn on the fireplace and make some tea. This time of year is my favourite time of year to sit by the fireplace, I looooooove fireplaces – good thing I have 3 in my house! There are some really creative designs out there as I learnt while browsing through Pinterest. Here are some of my favourites I happen to find today.
Happy Monday Everyone! As you may know I recently graduated at the end of September with my Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design and took a little break and went to Toronto. I have been back from Toronto for about 3 weeks and last Thursday I officially got my first job as a Jr. Interior Designer! I am working for a small interior design firm that is literally a 5min drive from my house (how perfect!). As a congrats on a real job, I decided to splurge a little bit and buy myself something nice. Back in October at Stephanie’s birthday party I misplaced my wallet so I thought I would replace it. I bought a gorgeous Kate Spade wallet in a minty/blue colour. I am obsessed with it! And when you open it the interior is white with gold dots!
So it may be a little bit early to start talking about Christmas.. but it is my favourite time of year!! I love everything about Christmas, spending time with loved ones, going to Christmas parties, buying gifts and all the decor!! I always make it a rule each year not to decorate until December 1st but that doesn’t mean I can’t shop around and see what is new this year.
Yesterday I was browsing through Etsy to see if I could find any unique or fun Christmas decorations. Here are a few of my favourite I found!
These are Half Pint Frosty White Tree Mason Jars. Mason jars have been really popular the past few years but I have never seen it used in this way. They are super cute and they also come in different sizes. Love them!
These Lego Christmas Baubles are perfect for kids!! I grew up building Lego all the time with my brother so when I found these it brought back some childhood memories!
This Geometric Christmas Tree is made from recycled hard book covers! I love this idea and it is unique so I couldn’t help but share this gem.
Vinyl art decor is a quick way to change up a space and is quite popular. This Reindeer Games Decal is perfect for Christmas. This vinyl art comes in different sizes and colours and can be placed on walls, windows and mirrors!
Some of these decor items can also be created at home as well. Happy decorating!!
As soon as I saw photos of mini pumpkins surfacing on Instagram I knew I wanted to pick up a few to decorate my condo with – they are just too cute! Especially the white ones, but unfortunately I couldn’t find them anywhere. I also had a little vase that I wanted to fill with Halloween candy but I wanted to buy something that I wouldn’t be tempted to eat so I went with candy corn. Call me crazy but I’m just not a big fan of it, however, I have been guilty of snacking on them. (I have to add that the vase wasn’t full when I put the candy in it).
Here are a few photos of how I added some Fall decor to our place, which will be replaced with Holiday decor before I know it. I didn’t go as far as making them gold or glittery but definitely will get more creative next year!
One of the easiest places to change up some decor is a side table or coffee table. My bedside table is an example of one of those things that is always changing. The table it self is an old side table I have since painted that matches my Tiffany’s Inspired Dresser.
I don’t like having too much clutter on my table because my laptop is usually on it. I am one of those people who spends an hour on the computer before going to bed (bad habit), so it’s regular home is on my side table. I also currently have 3 small notebooks that haven’t been used yet sitting there. The blue ones are from Target and the pink one is from Indigo. I always keep some kind of lipgloss (I like to put some on before bed) and moisturizer for quick access if I’m lounging in bed and don’t feel like getting up. I usually also keep my Michael Kors watch on my bedside, mainly because I don’t want to lose it. There is also a little pink bow ring that has been sitting there for the past month.
As I said before this is something that is always changing for me and there really is no wrong way to do it. I am thinking I need to move the notebooks and add some white mini pumpkins soon! Good thing I will be checking out the pumpkin patch this weekend!
I am currently lounging in bed with a tea in hand, with the sunshine is trying to come through my shut blinds. This is the life of someone who is just finished school and is looking for a job. Sound glamorous? Before I officially start my day of job hunting, running errands and going to the gym I thought I would write a quick post :-). Now I am clearly not having any babies anytime soon but I do have many friends with little ones and friends that are currently pregnant and there is just something so sweet about designing a nursery! This is going to be the babies first room and it is important to do it right. I personally love the idea of using neutral paint colours and then adding in the pinks and blues in the furniture and accessories. This way it is easy to change the look of the room in the future, it is good if you end up not staying in that current house – you won’t be scaring away potential buyers with a bright pink room and if you are not finding out the sex of the child you don’t have to guess if you should be painting it blue or pink or just settling with yellow. I love browsing Pinterest for some inspiration! Here are some of my favourites that I came across…
