Blogger Spotlight

I know I’m not the only girl whose Pinterest, Bloglovin and Instagram feeds are filled with images/posts from bloggers, these are the best places to get outfit or styling inspiration. I follow a handful of local bloggers – To Vogue Or Bust, Alicia Fashionista, Bleed For Fashion, The Starving Stylist and Discovering Elegance – the list could go on! (I actually went to Blanche Macdonald in Vancouver with Peter of The Starving Stylist and I remember when he was starting up his blog; keep up the great work love!) Then of course there are those bloggers that everyone knows, who mainly reside in the US, like Man Repeller, Devon Rachel, Cupcakes and Cashmere, Eat Sleep Wear and The Blonde Salad.

One of my absolute favourites though is Julia Engel of the fabulous blog Gal Meets Glam! This beauty is from San Fransisco,  California and has impeccable style. Her outfits are flawlessly styled, capture that classic look and she always looks amazing. Print mixing isn’t for everyone but this girl can pull it off! She also got married a little over a year ago and I definitely have looked to pictures from her wedding as inspiration for mine as well. Also she’s very good at making a ponytail look good (or any updo for that matter) which is something I’ve yet to accomplish. I’ve gathered some of my favourite outfit posts from her blog (there are far too many to choose from!) to share with you. Now it’s time for me to do some outfit planning myself for the work week ahead.

Happy Sunday!

STACT

I recently discovered a company called STACT. They have designed a revolutionary wine rack that is modern, minimalist and modular. When I first went on their website I read this “STACT isn’t a wine rack. It’s an interior décor piece that stores wine in a beautiful way.” That is exactly what I want in a wine a rack! The wine rack was designed in San Francisco by Eric Pfeiffer and is now based in Vancouver – Another plus! What I love about the wine rack is that you can use it in a small location in your house or you can really make a statement piece with any design you can come up with. Here are some examples from STACT’s website of ways their wine rack has been used.

Okay so I might be totally obsessed with STACT but it’s an interior designers dream wine rack, the possibilities are endless!  I am definitely craving a glass of wine now. Have a good weekend everyone!

Fireplace Design

It’s been unusually  cold here in Vancouver for the past few days, my iPhone says it’s currently -4 but feels like -10. Us Vancouverite’s are not use to freezing temperature’s!  When I get home from work the first thing I do is turn on the fireplace and make some tea. This time of year is my favourite time of year to sit by the fireplace, I looooooove fireplaces – good thing I have 3 in my house! There are some really creative designs out there as I learnt while browsing through Pinterest. Here are some of my favourites I happen to find today.

Friday’s Fabulous Five

Happy Friday!! The weekend is upon us finally! November is going by so fast, it’s already been a week! Before we know it it’s going to be Christmas. Have you started Christmas shopping yet?! Either have I..! If you know me you would know that I LOVE tea! I pretty much drink it all day long.. I probably have a problem. Today’s Friday’s Fabulous Five is based around my obsession with tea!

Screen Shot 2013-11-08 at 12.33.06 PM

1. First up is David’s Tea’s 24 days of tea. This is the advent calendar for the ultimate tea lover!! This magical box comes with 24 different teas. So for the month of December you can try a new flavour of tea each day. Sadly it is sold out online but if you are lucky enough to find it in store I would pick it up! It is only $34.50.

2. I absolutely fell in love with this cup when I saw it! It describes me perfectly (seriously my hands are ALWAYS cold). This Kate Spade travel mug is available at your local Indigo or Chapters or on their website here.

3. These gold acrylic tea spoons from Shop by Monkia are to die for!! They are perfect for the holidays for your tea or coffee and everyone will be asking where you got these glittery spoons from!

4. Any Starbucks lover knows that once November 1st arrives it is Christmas at Starbucks! I just wanted to share with you my favourite guilty pleasure to get at Starbucks during the holiday season. A tall no water, egg nog chai tea latte! It is seriously so good! I am not the biggest fan of egg nog and would never drink it alone but when mixed with chai it is delicious! What’s your favourite Starbucks holiday drink!?

5. This has nothing to do with tea but I thought I would end with a quote that I love and am currently living by. (quote from here)

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!!

Overnight Oats

I am officially back from my lovely trip to Toronto and while I was gone things have changed. Starbucks has their red cups now, it seems to be Christmas in all the stores, I am now 25 and It seems to be a lot colder in Vancouver. I am happy to be back in Vancouver and see the mountains and the ocean but I am missing Toronto at the same time. My trip consisted of visiting with family and friends, checking out the new Aquarium, going to numerous Halloween parties, having a wonderful dinner on the top of the CN Tower and I could go on forever but I will stop there.

While I was gone I ate out quite a bit and was also spoiled to have someone cook a few delicious meals for me. But now that I am back in Vancouver I am trying to get back to my usual eating habits. One of my favourite things to have for breakfast is Overnight Oats. This is a great meal if you don’t have time to make something in the morning because most of it is made the night before. This meal is full of fibre and protein and it is a great meal to start off a busy day. The best thing about overnight oats is that you can change it up every morning if you wanted to.

IMG_2052 IMG_2054

Ingredients:

For the overnight oats:

  • 1/2 cup of rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup of plain greek yogurt
  • 2/3 cup of milk (or milk substitute)
  • 1 tablespoon of chia seeds

Variation:

  • 2/3 cup of berries
  • 2 tablespoons of slivered almonds
  • drizzle of honey

Instructions:

  • Combine the oats, greek yogurt, milk, and chia seeds into a bowl. Cover with a lid or plastic wrap. Let the mixture to sit in the refrigerator overnight.
  • In the morning mix in the variation and enjoy!

The variation can change whenever you’d like. I also enjoy adding in a banana with a large scoop of natural peanut butter. But you can put any type of fruit or nut in to make any type of variation you want! The possibilities are endless!!

8 Must Haves in your Carry-on

Bon Voyage!! I am off to Toronto tomorrow for a little vacation to visit some family and friends. I am super excited for my trip but I dread packing. I am one of those people that want to bring EVERYTHING.. It’s suppose to rain twice while I am there and for that reason I wanted to bring my Hunter wellies. I took me a day to convince myself I won’t really need them. But my suitcase is now full! and I am just packing up my bag for the plane. Here are some tips and things I plan on bringing with me so I can enjoy my flight!

1) Use a big purse/bag!! I am using my Michael Kors Jet Set Macbook Travel Tote which is perfect because it has a compartment for my Macbook Pro and it still leaves tons of space for other things that I need to bring with me.

2) Bring a Laptop or iPad to play with. I get really bored on planes, especially when I am alone. I will be bringing my laptop to keep me entertained. But I also don’t trust having my laptop in my suitcase so even if I don’t plan on using it I want it with me. Along with my laptop I make sure I have my charger and iPhone charger.

3) Bring a book or Magazines. I am bringing both, again it’s mainly for entertainment purposes.

4) Chapstick!! I am seriously a lipgloss/chapstick hoarder.. I have put in 5 different kinds in my bag.

5) I like to bring my own blanket. The ones they give you on the plane just plain suck. I tend to get cold easily, so I prefer to bring my own fuzzy blanket. I also am packing a scarf with me to put on once I land in Toronto.

6) Proper Identification and cash! This is important anytime your are going on a flight, mainly because they won’t let you on if you don’t have the right ID and it is always safe to have some kind of cash with you, just incase.

7) HEADPHONES. This is crucial. If you want to watch a movie or listen to music you are going to need these, unless you enjoy listening to the person beside you snore.

8) Gum and snacks! Gum for taking off and snacks because you never know when you’ll get hungry!

Okay time to double check and make sure I have packed everything!

Can’t believe we’re already halfway through October, which means that today is…my BIRTHDAY!

I celebrated over the weekend with family and friends which also happened to be a long weekend for us Canadians because yesterday was Thanksgiving.

Saturday night was my celebration with my friends – we took a limo to a bar called the Lamplighter in Gastown which is in downtown Vancouver. It was so much fun! Then Sunday morning my fiance and I went over to my mom & step-dad’s to have brunch with them, as well as my brother and sister. It was very yummy – we had a variety of quiches, sausage, pineapple, croissants, tater tots & of course mimosas! Last week when my fiance and I went to Whistler for a few nights, we had an early birthday dinner together at the Keg and it was really nice.

I’m very lucky that the company I work for gives us our birthday as a paid day off, and this day happens to be the last of my 11 day staycation. It’s going to be weird going back to work tomorrow after so many days off, also because I will be at my new store. So I plan on enjoying the day by spending it with two of the most important people in my life! I’m meeting my mom for lunch, using birthday money to get my hair done and then meeting up with my dad for dinner. Normally I would never eat out twice in one day (with the exception of vacations) but it’s my birthday! And I have boot camp the next two evenings.

H&M Home

If you don’t already know H&M has their own H&M Home division in Europe. It is similar to their H&M fashion collections, with their prices being low. It was announced back in August that the H&M home collections will be available on US online stores! Unfortunately this isn’t including Canada, but in Vancouver we live close enough to the US we could just order it and have it sent to the border and pick it up! They have everything from duvets, pillows, vases and kitchen accessories. Hopefully some time in the future us Canadians will be able to order online as well! Or even better if eventually they opened H&M Home stores, imagine going to H&M and being able to shop for a new outfit and new accessories for your home, it sounds like a dangerous combination for my wallet! I did some online browsing on the H&M Home  website and put together a little inspiration board of some of my favourite products they carry to give you an idea of what they have. You can always check it out yourself at H&M Home!

Birthday Wish List

We’ve officially started Fall and October is just around the corner – where has the time gone?! I swear each month goes by faster and faster. (Which also means that our wedding is 11 months away –  eep!) I may or may not have already mentioned that October is my favourite month of the year…because it’s my BIRTHDAY MONTH! I don’t really celebrate it all month long but try to stretch it out for a week of celebrations. The week will consist of lunches and/or dinners with family, a night out with my friends & a nice evening with my fiance. However, this year he goes away the day before my birthday for work *tear* but we’re going away to Whistler for a couple nights the previous week which I’m very excited about!

Personally I LOVE celebrating birthdays, whether it’s mine or someone else’s. I know lots of people who could care less about celebrating which makes me feel more inclined to give said person a card and even a little gift. I either bake cupcakes for them in their favourite colours/flavour or give them something related to their interests, so it feels more personal & thoughtful. When it comes to gifts for my birthday (even Christmas) I tend to think that I’m very easy to shop for, however, some of my friends seem to disagree. Pretty much anything to do with cupcakes, clothes/shoes/shopping or unicorns is a safe bet. And anything purple or sparkly. As I get older there doesn’t seem to be as much that I wish for like I did as a child. It becomes less about material items and more about feeling loved on the 1 day a year that’s all about me. So here’s this years little Birthday Wish List!

katespadeagendaI use an agenda at work for planning out all my visual changes & since we’re getting closer to the end of the year I’m going to need a new one for the new year – and this gold polka dot one by Kate Spade from Chapters fits the bill perfectly!iphone5s_white_medI still technically have to wait a year before upgrading without paying a fee but since they released the iPhone 5S I think it’s time to upgrade early. 1) Because I’m still team Blackberry and 2) it now comes in gold.

justintimberlakeI’m really enjoying the new music he’s been putting out and I missed seeing him last time he came to Vancouver for his solo headlining tour. (balcony tickets showed up but I was selfish & wanted to search for something better and sure enough they sold out – I legit shed a tear) So this time I really want to see him – I know he’d put on a great show! Tickets go on sale Monday!

aldobootsFLOKARLJOSSELINE

As if I need another pair of shoes. I already have cognac booties and black booties but I’ve fallen in love with taupe coloured ones as well. These are my current favs from Aldo!

hunterbootsOne pair of boots that every Vancouver girl needs – rain boots. I have a pair of floral rain boots but these classic black Hunters need to be added to my closet as well. They’ll go with every outfit, as black always does.

giftcard2And of course, you can never go wrong with a gift card! It may not necessarily be a personal gift but for any shopaholic – like myself – they’re perfect! Get me a gift card for any store that I shop at and I will have no problem finding a goodie, or two, to take home with me.

Fall Trends: Jewel Tones

There are many trends for this upcoming Fall season but this is the last one of my Fall Trends posts! I say “upcoming” because it hasn’t quite started, even though the first official day of Fall is 2 days away. The weather has definitely started to change. When I’m getting dressed for work in the morning (which is at like 6am) it’s cold & cloudy but by mid afternoon it becomes warm & sunny. What the heck?! Oh right, this is Vancouver.

A trend that I love for Fall are pretty jewel tones like Teal & Berry/Oxblood! I actually just purchased a teal blouse & a berry long sleeve midi dress from H&M (on a side note, I’m become slightly obsessed with dresses & skirts in a midi length). It also happens that teal is one of my favourite colours – my #1 fav is purple. These colours are the perfect way to add that pop of colour to your Fall wardrobe which usually consists of neutrals like black, cognac & creme. They can also be worn all year round which is a great reason to pick up something in one of these fabulous colours!
