Last week I talked about Radiant Orchid for interiors. Now I want to talk about Radiant Orchid in wedding decor. Purples are a great colour for weddings, there are so many types of different flowers that come in this shade and it’s not as girly as pink – so your fiancé would approve. It’s also a popular colour for weddings so there are tons of options for accessories, bridesmaid dresses and icing for that delicious cake!
Here are some of my favourite decor ideas in Radiant Orchid for weddings.
Sorry for the lack of posts, I don’t really have a reason other than I’ve been pretty busy! Bouncing around from house to house over the holidays gets tiresome, as nice as it is to see our families. Also by default from working retail, Boxing Day is always a hectic day too so I took last week off work to spend time with my fiancé and relax. We didn’t go anywhere but did enjoy a nice stay-cation at home and it went by far too quickly.
I don’t usually make resolutions but I have made a couple goals for myself for this year. One of them being to finally get the body I want – specifically flatten my tummy, I’m happy with everything else. I know that sounds so cliché, but I feel that I actually have a reason to accomplish this now. As much as I’ve always wanted a flat and toned tummy like I use to have in high school, I just enjoy indulging too much. However, with my bachelorette party in Vegas, our wedding and our honeymoon in Hawaii happening this year, I feel like now is the time. A couple of my co-workers have signed up for the same gym as me and the three of us have decided to workout together everyday after work, stop hitting up Tim Hortons on our break & have a “no junk food January” (at least when we’re at work). We were suppose to start yesterday when I returned to work but unfortunately both of them have gotten sick. I’ve stuck to the pact though! I’m taking a break from boot camp but will start it up again in March in combination with the gym. I’m sure that with hard work, dedication and determination I can accomplish this goal!
One of my other goals is to run my first 5K. I know that I can physically accomplish it, it’s more about actually signing up and making time for it amidst the wedding planning. Even if it means doing it all by myself.
To quickly sum this post up, because I need to get some sleep, this year is going to be the best one yet. I’m so excited to be marrying my best friend and the love of my life. Just over 7 years ago we jumped into a relationship pretty quickly, which has had it’s ups and downs, but I knew then just as much as I do now that he’s the guy I want to spend the rest of my life with. I’m trying not to get too overwhelmed with the wedding planning but I have feeling that’s going to be inevitable. Until that point comes though, I’m enjoying how simple everything’s been so far and look forward to crossing off a few more “big” things off the list.
I think it’s safe to say that most girls out there have a major gold obsession, especially if it sparkles. It just has a way making things look prettier and more exciting which is partly why I chose it to be one of the main colours for our wedding. I plan on purchasing the table runner & using it for decor at our reception!
The best ways to incorporate some gold into your life are in your wardrobe or your home. Adding pops of gold with decor pieces around your house give that extra oomph to the room and even though clothing items in this lavish colour, like the sequin skirt below, may seem fancy they can be dressed up or down. I guarantee you will be able to find something that you’ll fall in love with and have to bring home. Here are a few of my current favourite gold items!
Over the last few months I’ve been purchasing items to put into a gift bag for my bridesmaids to give to them when we went wedding dress shopping – and I said yes to my dress!
The colours for our wedding are white & gold with mint/seafoam as the accent colour so I wanted to bring that colour scheme into the gifts and presentation. It was super easy finding gold items but finding the perfect shade of mint proved to be difficult. I had found on Etsy lots of cute bridesmaid invitations so I took a couple of the sayings and made my own cards. One thing I wanted to include in the gift was something that was “so Stephanie”; cupcakes. I found a recipe awhile ago on Pinterest that made 2 vanilla cupcakes so I filled a little mason jar with the dry ingredients & included a card with directions on how to bake them. A few extra little goodies were added, as well as a mini bottle of champagne.
The girls loved their gifts and I’m so excited to have them by my side to help me along the way. Asides from finalizing our DJ, I think the wedding planning will be put on hold until the New Year just because we’re nearing the Holiday season and it’s always such a busy time.
If you don’t already know, Stephanie is engaged and getting married in one year (and one day)! I offered to design her save the dates for her, they can be way over priced on websites likes Etsy. I said I could create a custom design and something that her and her fiancé would love! It literally took 2 hours of my time and $10 worth of paper and I think they turned out perfectly.
Being an interior designer we are always using Adobe programs like Photoshop and Illustrator, which is what graphic designers use to create things like this. I am no graphic expert but I love designing invites! I guess you could say it is something I do on the side for fun!
I hope you love these invites as much as Stephanie and I do!
Stephanie and I have two good friends that are marrying each other in 2.5 weeks!! It’s coming up so fast! She is having a what is going to be gorgeous vineyard wedding in Osoyoos, British Columbia. Everything is just about ready to go, the stagette is next weekend and the following weekend is the big day! Although the decor and everything is already set and done, I have come up with some vineyard inspiration using the colors of the wedding. Enjoy!!
The summertime is the most popular time of year for weddings! Depending on the location, you’re pretty much guaranteed to have nice weather. At the end of this month I’ll be attending the wedding of two of my good friends as a guest (Nicole is one of the bridesmaids!) and I still have yet to decide what I’ll be wearing (typical). There are a few things to think about when picking out a dress!
The first thing to do is find out what colour dresses the bridesmaids are going to be wearing – you don’t want to show up in the same colour. Then, find out what kind of style/theme the wedding is going to be; A country chic wedding might call for a more casual dress and cowboy booties whereas a fancier wedding will require a more glam look with pretty jewels & a long dress. Also, do you want to wear a print – like floral? Or a delicate detail – like lace? Stick to something that you’re going to be comfortable wearing for hours & able to dance in. On that note of comfort, don’t wear ridiculously high heels or shoes that are flat out uncomfortable! If you’re not a heels kind of girl but don’t want to wear flats, stick with a wedge. They are perfect to get the extra height and are far more bearable to dance the night away in! Oh, and don’t wear any shade of white/cream/off-white/ivory unless 1) you get the OK on the dress from the bride or 2) you can add a detail to the dress so it doesn’t resemble a wedding dress.
Lastly, be true to your style and have fun! Here are a few dresses that are perfect to wear to a wedding and I may have to pick one of them up for myself!
